Cycle hire

churnet valley cycle hire

Manor House Farm is also home to the Churnet Valley Cycle Hire, run by our resident bike mechanic Ben.
Bikes are available to hire from the farm, due to a limited number of bikes Booking is essential.

Routes

A traffic free greenway runs past the village from Denstone toward Alton, Dimmingsdale and Oakamoor.
This quiet trail follows the river Churnet along the valley bottom through woodland and ancient meadow.
The route can be kept short and take cyclists straight to Dimmingsdale. This shorter route, being completely traffic once on the greenway in the village, is perfect for families with young children.
The longer version of the route takes cyclists round in a loop via Oakmoor at the end of the greenway back through dimmingsdale to Prestwood. This longer route does include some quiet country lane riding linking the greenway to Dimmingsdale, so is therefore not recommended for families of children with no road riding experience.

Dimmingsdale

The route takes cyclist through Dimmingsdale, a magical place set in a deep wooded valley originally designed by the Earl of Shrewsbury and now managed by the Forestry Commission. Cycle off route around the lakes while you are here, its so beautiful and shouldn't be missed. Keep a look out for Herons, Kingfisher and both spotted and green woodpeckers.
Dimmingsdale is also the perfect place for a mid route break, enjoy lunch or a slice of cake and a drink, in the gardens of the Ramblers Retreat or cycle slightly further on toward Alton and the Alton Bridge Hotel where you can sit outside with bikes by the rivers edge.
